Moni!
Hello all! Welcome to my website and blog outlining the month I am spending in Lilongwe, Malawi in the Summer of 2009. I am a senior nursing student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (GO HEELS!--I'm on the far left in the picture above celebrating the 2009 National Championship on Franklin Street) and will graduate in December 2009. I am the first nursing student to work with the UNC Project (being called the "guinea pig" and "pilot" around UNC), so I'm sure my trip will be a learning experience for all parties involved. I would like to thank the UNC School of Nursing for providing me with Global Health Scholar funding and the UNC Malawi Project for allowing me to work with their staff this summer. I will be spending half my time working at the local hospital in the pediatric ward and the other half working with various research projects encompassed in UNC's Malawi Project. Also, I will be collaborating with local nursing students who attend the Malawi College of Nursing in order to better understand the nursing education system in Lilongwe. This is my first time traveling abroad, so as you all can imagine I am very nervous, but am excited about the challenges I will face and the experience I will gain. Hopefully this website will serve as a way for me to document my experience, share my pictures, and update friends, family, and individuals in the SON and UNC communities on my day-to-day happenings in Lilongwe. Hope this is helpful and that you all enjoy!
